Supporting the police’s action

Dear Editor,
A recent letter by a bear activist made outrageous accusations against our police. It mentioned “terrible injustice”, “out-and-out murder” and “life carelessly taken.” Our police were trying their best to protect us, our children, our neighbors and our seniors from a Category 1 bear that was near a school, the popular play area Peterson Field, senior housing at Fox Hills and the heavily trafficked Rockaway Mall

A bear at any of those locations could have led to a deadly tragedy, and let’s not forget that somehow this bear wandered by Route 80, which could have cause a fatal accident.

She claims “the children were at home” ignoring that the homes were only a few feet from the school and that bears tend to develop patterns, so that bear would be back again near the school. She even criticized the DEP as being in on the “killing”, the same DEP that has stopped the bear hunt for the last several years, endangering us all.

I, and countless others, support our police. Ignore those whining voices of activists. You did you duty and protected us as best you could. Thanks for the good work.
