School board shuffles assignments
(by David Jimenez - May 07, 2008)
Newly elected Seth Johnson, Marianna Lindsay and John Paragian were sworn in last week for another three-year term as members of Denville’s Board of Education. All three incumbents, who ran unopposed, were elected at the mid-April Morris County school board elections.
At the April 28 reorganization meeting, where school board members met to induct officials and make committee assignments, board members unanimously reelected Michael Bertram as board president and elected Seth Johnson, who replaced board member Al Gellene, as board vice president.
In other motions, the board approved Bertram to chair two committees: Finance and Policy Review, with Johnson and Paragian also serving on the Finance Committee while Gellene and Paragian serve on the Policy Review board.
A similar motion was approved to have Johnson chair the Buildings and Grounds Committee, Lindsay the Personnel Committee and Donald Casse the Transportation Committee.
In personnel appointments, John Serapiglia was reappointed as Board Secretary, while 11 other school posts, including school treasurer, affirmative action officer, and school physician among others, were officially approved, as required by existing policies and bylaws administered by the district’s Board of Education.
The board also approved six of its seven members to represent the school district at local, county and state organizations. Bertram volunteered to represent the district at the Morris County and New Jersey school board associations and the Morris County Educational Services Commission. Casse volunteered to represent the board at the township’s Recreation Committee, Gellene at the Municipal Alliance Committee, Allison Anderson at the township’s PRIDE Council, Johnson at the Technology Committee and Lindsay at the Legislative Committee.
The Denville school board consists of seven elected members who serve a term of three years each. The township’s Board of Education meets the first and third Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at Riverview School.
