Athlete of the week for April 30

(by Josh Lashley/Sports Correspondent - April 30, 2008)

Crystal Lee has put in her time and effort for the Morris Knolls High School softball program and now she is reaping the benefits.

Lee, now a Senior, is a three-year starter for the Golden Eagles and is a captain this season.
“She is one of our leaders on and off the field,’’ says Morris Knolls head coach, Keith Heinemann. “She does a great job for us defensively and offensively she is our leadoff hitter and can make a lot of thing happen for us. She sets the tone for the rest of the team. She is one of the team leaders for hits, runs batted in, runs scored and doubles.

“When she has a good day the team usually follows her. She also excels in the classroom and is looking to go to Princeton University or The College of New Jersey next year to continue her academics and athletics.’’

Heinemann has seen continual improvements in all aspects of Lee’s softball performance.
“Offensively she has really improved upon her hitting,’’ Heinemann said. “She is becoming more disciplined at the plate and is hitting the outside pitch to right field. Defensively she has really improved upon her footwork and has improved throwing her accuracy. Most importantly she has improved her leadership skills.’’

The Golden Eagles will be at Morris Hills for a game this Saturday, May 5.
