DWI arrests
On April 15, the Denville Police responded to an accident that occurred on Route 53 in front of the Bank of America. After an investigation, Keith Denning, 37, of Livingston, one of the drivers involved in the accident, was arrested for driving while intoxicated. Denning was charged with the following motor vehicle violations: DWI, careless driving and reckless driving. Denning was released with a court date.
On April 17, the Denville Police responded to a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Sunset Trail, located in the Indian Lake section of town. On arrival, the accident was determined to be a single car crash in which the operator impacted a utility pole and a fire hydrant. The driver, Sandra Dreyer, 30, of Denville was found to be intoxicated and subsequently transported to St. Clare’s Hospital to be examined. The vehicle was not drive-able and the impact caused both the driver and passenger’s side air bags to be deployed. Dreyer was ultimately released and charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.
On April 17 at approximately 3 a.m., patrol was traveling on West Glen Road when an officer came upon a parked car with the engine racing. Upon closer inspection, the officer observed an unconscious male in the driver’s seat with his foot still on the accelerator. After an investigation, it was determined that the driver, Stanton Van Winkle, 25, of Denville, was under the influence of alcohol and was subsequently arrested for DWI. Van Winkle was later released on his own recognizance pending a court appearance in Denville Township Municipal Court.
Frederick McGaughan, 51, of Morris Plains was charged with DWI, refusal, reckless and failure to exhibit his license after he was observed driving the wrong way on a one way road. He was released pending his court appearance.
Warrant, use of cellular phone
On April 17, Denville Police conducted a motor vehicle stop on Franklin Avenue for a cellular phone violation. During the course of the stop, it was determined that the operator, Samuel DeJesus, 34, of Denville had an active warrant. The warrant was out of Parsippany in the amount of $250. DeJesus was arrested, processed and charged with 39:4-97.3. use of cellular phone. DeJesus posted full bail and was released.
Warrant, driving while suspended, unregistered vehicle, failure to inspect, uninsured vehicle, failure to produce documents
On April 18, Denville Police conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 10 east for an expired registration. During the course of the stop, it was determined that the operator, Shaneka T. Harris, 21, of Dover had a suspended driver’s license as well as an active ATS Warrant. The warrant was out of Randolph Township in the amount of $583. Consequently, Harris was arrested, processed and charged with 39:3-40 driving while suspended, 39:3-4 unregistered vehicle, 39:8-1 failure to inspect, 39:6B-2 uninsured vehicle and 39:3-29 failure to produce documents. Harris posted full bail and was released.
Warrant, speeding, uninsured vehicle
On April 18, Denville Police conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 10 west for a speeding violation. During the course of the stop, it was determined that the operator, Raymond V. Sokoloff, 18, of Pompton Plains had an active warrant out of Wayne Township in the amount of $300. Sokoloff was arrested, processed and charged with 39:4-98 speeding and 39:6B-2 uninsured vehicle. Sokoloff posted full bail and was released.
Warrants, maintenance of lamps, failure to exhibit documents, driving while suspended
On April 19 at approximately 2:39 a.m., Daniel C. Schorno, 26, of Rockaway was stopped on I-80 west for motor vehicle violations. During the stop, it was determined that he was wanted by both Rockaway Township ($800) and Morristown ($250) on outstanding warrants. Schorno was subsequently arrested and transported to headquarters where he posted bail and was released.
Criminal trespass
On April 19 at approximately 1:15 a.m., police responded to 39 Front St. (American Radar) to investigate a suspicious person’s complaint. During the course of the investigation, two Parsippany youths were arrested for criminal trespass. It was determined that the youths entered the property of the closed business, found an open door of a tractor camper and went inside. While inside the camper, they sprayed the interior with a fire extinguisher. The youths were arrested and transported to headquarters where they were processed for criminal trespass. They were later turned over to their parents.
Motor vehicle accident
On April 22 at approximately 5:03 p.m., Denville Police were called to the scene of a motor vehicle accident on Route 10 west. The accident involved a landscape truck that was pulling trailer. On the trailer, there was a small backhoe. It was a single vehicle accident with the driver losing control of both the truck and trailer. The driver, Michael J. Woetzel, 43, of Rockaway, was transported to Morristown Memorial after sustaining injures to his leg and head from the accident. No further details, at this time, of the driver’s condition.
